Banstead Village in Bloom judged for the first time
On a lovely sunny day, Monday 26th June, Banstead Village in Bloom was judged for the first time. The judging started at Banstead Junior Community School with a presentation and coffee. The judges then set of on a walk around Banstead Village, they visited several different areas including Banstead Community Project on the corner of Winkworth Road, Briarwood, the High Street, Lady Neville Recreation Ground, the Community Hall and the Woolpack. Banstead Rotary was involved and David Martin was a Committee Member. The judges made lots of positive general remarks as they walked around. Several shops and business have supported us following the pink, white and mauve colour scheme with flowers outside their premises. The completed walk ended back at Banstead Junior Community School, where we were joined by Mayor Cllr. Roger Newstead and Mayoress Mrs Mary Newstead MBE. They were shown around the school grounds on their arrival. After some photos were taken we all had a light lunch provided by our sponsors Waitrose of Banstead eaten in the school gardens. We are now allowed to give 10 certificates of Excellence to people who have been proactive and supported us in our efforts to involve the community to create a pleasant environment for us all to share. The results of our first attempt of entering Banstead Village in Bloom will be on the 20th September. If you would like to become involved in Banstead Village in Bloom 2018 you can get more information from our website at www.bvib.co.uk or email us at BVIB@yahoo.com We are holding a quiz night on 28th October 2017 to help raise funds for next year’s entry, where we can build on the successes of this year. This is a great opportunity to get the community involved to help enhance the environment for everyone to enjoy.
